  1. Ignore the 1 Star Reviews. It’s called the Museum of the Weird…there’s going to be weird stuff. If you leave a one star review because you got freaked out then you should probably keep your opinions to yourself.

When we went the wax museum was under construction so the $12 was a little steep in my opinion but would have been worth it had we been able to go upstairs. The museum seems small and short but that there is so much stuff to read that you can spend an hour in there easy.

The psychic was really into the museum and answered all the screw ball questions our group had. His performance was pretty outstanding, in my opinion.

The gift shop was by far the best part for me. All sorts of odd ball nick-knacks that are usually super hard to find. And of course the staff were all INCREDIBLY friendly and super in to their jobs!

  2. Many people will look at this place, and already dislike it off the bat due to the small size of it. Sure, it’s a tiny museum smack dab in the center of downtown Austin, but you must try it. Admission is about $11 per person, but it will be worth it. Hear me out.

You can walk in, and there’s a hallway with mutant animals, objects, and all this other random stuff that is interesting to observe. Sheep on the wall, other bodies on farm animals’ heads, and many other ridiculous things to feast your eyes upon. Not only that, there’s a separate side show where they take you behind the scenes of the museum. There’s even a room where Johnny Depp used to stay in when he was recording some movies around Austin.

In the last room of this separate tour, there’s a prehistoric ice person that is sort of like a caveman buried in a thick layer of ice. You can even get your pictures taken in a King Kong set, or act like you’re being attacked by Big Foot. So, don’t be fooled by the size of this place. Come on in and spend an hour looking at some of the most random things you’ll ever see!

  3. The guided tour part was the best! Our guide was well versed on everything and funny! The perfect showman! The show at the end was entertaining and I’d go back again just for him!

  4. Super cool museum, my kids loved it. The people who work here are so friendly and helpful!! Not only were they great with my kids they made all the stories super engaging. If your kids like mysteries, a little spooky, the Weird TX book this is for them. Probably ages 10 and up, but as a mom I loved it too. Great fun

  5. As described in the name, it’s weird! Lots of animal mutations to look at, shrunken heads, skeletons and stuff like that in the museum part.

The fun part is going back to the guided show. Sal asked me to hold a crystal and picture someone (anyone) and then asked another girl to hold one but picture a place. Then we wrote them on paper, folded them and passed to another guest. Then they were lit on fire.

Sal then proceeded to write the place where the other girl wrote down and then write the name of the person I had written. Super cool and I’m still trying to figure out how he did it!

  6. Very fun place if you’re into slightly creepy stuff. The freak show part was pretty impressive!

  7. Freakin’ awesome weirdness! Mummies, wax movie monsters, THE iceman, instructions on how to shrink a head, side show oddities, stuffed two headed farm animals and things hung on every inch of the walls and stuffed into every corner of the narrow hallway they use as the “museum”.

Get your photo taken in the grips of a life sized King Kong! Big foot enthusiasts will love the foot cast collection. Lots of t-shirts out front. Most of them in youth sizes though. A nice history of haunted Austin in case you wanna go check out the local haunts.

This is a very cool way to spend an hour. I will mention it to friends next time we visit Austin.

  8. Mostly cheesy at the beginning even though I love that shit lol.
BUT what blew me away was Sal the psychic who “performed” for us after the brief showings around.
I’m skeptical when it comes to that stuff but he really made me question my beliefs!!
I don’t want to spoil it by telling you the details BUT just know my hands were sweating and I was shaken up by the end of it.
Well worth the admission price to see him for sure.
Love the curious items at the gift shop as well!
We bought the double ticket for the other museum as well and enjoyed that too! If you’re an old horror movie buff, you’ll like it too!
