  1. The Brisket Tacos were out of this world.
The drinks were really good (especially when they used Mezcal instead of Tequila).
The band “Darius Jackson” (who plays there almost every weekend) was the coolest experience, that guy is an absolute guitar sorcerer!

  2. This is the one we always came back to when on dirty 6th side. They had the best bands through the day, friendly staff and great beer. One thing I didn’t understand is the lack of chairs by the bar 🙂

  3. Good place for live music. They have live music from 12 pm to 2 am everyday! We always go here when we are in Austin. They have good drinks options, but bad food menu. The food items are jot upto the mark. Wish they had more / better options. The best part is live music and the bands.

  4. Great place to grab a bite, drink, and check out some live music. We were stuck in town due to the weather and decided to check out the town some. Our hotel told us to check Friends out. Nice sized bar, with a camper kitchen in the back to get food. 12 noon, and they had Casey Shaw playing live, who sounded pretty good. The bartender was super nice. Great atmosphere. If visiting Austin, you must check out the music scene, and Friends is a good start!

  6. Picking a place to have a drink on 6th street is like picking your last meal, hard to do with so many choices! My suggestion, walk up and down the street and let your ears choose for you.

Jon G. and I were exploring Sixth Street, trying to decide where to go, when I heard some pretty stellar music floating out of this place. Into Friends bar we ventured.

Small dimly lit bar, lots of wood panels and guitars on the wall. Waitress was quick with drinks and the place had a great vibe going. No hooks at the bar for your bag, so you do get stuck with your purse in your lap.

Jon got a beer, I got a Salty Dog with Gin. A little bit of a heavy pour, but that never hurt anyone.

People filtered in and out pretty steadily, which was nice since dead bars aren’t really the most fun places to hang out.

Vibe was positive and friendly. Can’t speak for the rest of what Friends has to offer. But if you’re looking for a cold drink and some good music, you’ve found the place!

  7. This place is good enough. Walked in and it was half full… Mostly with older  (We are 28 & 33 & they were older than us) Crowd. The music was good.  Kinda blues/rock if that makes sense. Anyways, we liked it and I’m really picky about live bands. decent beer selection but not the best.

I also feel that the bar tenders were noteworthy. They were all attentive. We ordered drinks from almost all of them, and they were all pleasant. They earned the 4th star.

  8. So much fun!   We stopped in on Saturday and got to watch “gasoline boots”.  They were a fun band and had people dancing and singing.  The drinks were really good and strong.  Try the Cinnamon Toast Crunch if you get a chance-you won’t regret it!

  9. Absolutely loved this place.   Great music.   Excellent cold beer!   Heard Matt Ferrell who blew me away!

  10. We came here last Wednesday night for our first time in Austin and the blues band was amazing! They are unnamed since that’s what they kept saying; that their collaboration was a last minute gig. The cocktails were yummy and reasonably priced. Great atmosphere especially for late 20 somethings that are more into the chill vibe. The band vocalist had his own array of harmonicas that he played admirably well! We left when the rock band started playing just because it’s not our type of music.

  11. On a rainy Austin Sunday, we popped in when we heard love music. The cocktails were great and reasonably priced. The atmosphere was super chill (including a fish tank!) and the music was AWESOME! Nothing terribly special about the bar itself, but we had a good time!

  12. It was recommended that we bypass this area of downtown party but we like to live dangerously.  Our 3rd stop (maybe 5th, I don’t remember) on a Friday night here on E 6th Street.

Heard the music from outside, stepped in, and occupied two stools at the far end of the bar.  A band was playing (Sam Pace & The Gilded Grit  sampacemusic.com) – kinda soul, rock n’ roll, and a little blues-y.   We were quickly greeted and drink request fulfilled delivered in real glass vessels (not plastic cups).  Drink prices reasonable and service was really friendly.

Surprisingly not so busy/crowded considering the band was really pretty good.  We had been told that Friends Bar generally had good music.

Pluses for not crowded, decent drinks, good music, friendly tender.

  13. Came here during the ROT rally and stopped in to hear some live music and had such a good time. Candles, live music. and everyone having a good time.
I was drinking diet coke as a diet and also the DD.

Every place I went to on 6th street was pretty accommodating to that and it’s something I very much respect. I don’t know if all bars do that but either way I love that they do.

LIVE MUSIC: blues and very cool. and I don’t even like blues but I had a GREAT time AND I was sober! Wonder how awesome would it be if I had imbibed!

  14. I don’t know much about Friends Bar.* But what I know is threefold:

    1. The blues band was good. Better than we expected.
    2. Patron is the only halfway decent tequila they have.
    3. There is a fish tank, and damned if those fish weren’t digging the blues.

  15. My favorite music bar in austin.  Great entertainment every time I’ve been there.  Very nice servers until closing time.  Then they become bouncers.  Har har.

  16. Great bar. They have a nice line up of live music. The bartender was actually from Brooklyn and he gave us all the tips and pointers we needed to have a great Austin visit.
The blues music they play was down home loving style and I could hear it from the street.
They also have a random fish tank behind the bar. Cool.
