  1. Not sure why this place only has three stars? We stopped in before a concert not knowing what to expect. Great food and great service. I had the Mexican meatloaf with Mexican street corn. They were both fantastic. Very flavorful and way beyond ordinary. My wife had the GrilledSalmon and it also was great!

  2. We stopped in for some margaritas and tableside guac on the upstairs patio. Fantastic spot. You can sit outside above the street and sip wonderful drinks to cool off. Our skinny jalapeño margaritas were perfect! And the tableside guac is impressive- delicious.

  3. We’ve come to this place several times.  Typically at home we do Tex-Mex.  This is a bit fancier Tex-Mex.  So if you can get past the 5-6 transients per block and still have any money left, this is the place for you.

The food is always great.  We had the table side guacamole, which was just as good as what I make at home.  The brisket enchiladas were simply amazing.  As a BBQ snob I found the brisket to taste amazing and made the enchiladas awesome.

They have an amazing tequila selection.  There is more tequila here than all of Mexico.  I have slowly tried to get through all the Tequilas that my AA sponsor will allow.  I think it may take a lifetime to get through this amazing selection.

  4. First dinner in Austin! Loved this restaurant from the design to the food. From the table-side guacamole that was prepared by our server to the perfectly blended margaritas, to their famous fajitas.. we enjoyed every last bite!

Looking for a nice sit down spot for dinner within walking distance of the rest of the night?? This is your place. Loved walking off dinner on 6th street, will definitely remember this place next time in Austin.j

  5. This review is only based on the drinks that we had here – I got the strawberry margarita and my wife got a Moscow mule.   Margarita was delicious and the Moscow mule came in a copper cup.  Nice spot to relax and and watch some tv or the people on 6th.

  6. Is it the best Mexican food I’ve ever had?  No,not at all.  It’s your standard Tex-Mex and is exactly what you would expect it to be.  However, I’m giving a 4 star rating because I love the patio and the fact that you can dine and overlook 6th street.  During the really hot season the patio has misters, and that was pretty fascinating for this Detroit gal.

The service was great both times I was there.  I had a crashing headache on my last visit and asked the server if there was a drug store close by or if he could find out if anyone had any tylenol or asprin for me.  Even though this is a huge no-no, he was awesome and helped me out in a very discreet manner.  Needless to say by the time I left, the headache was gone and I’m fairly certain it was due to the asprin and not the margaritas – btw, try the blood orange one, delicious!

I’ve had both the queso and the guac as starters and I would recommend the queso.  For some reason the guac was lacking a little something for me.  The enchiladas are solid as are the fajitas.  You really can’t go wrong with comforting Tex-Mex like you will find here.

  7. I’m not sure why it’s taken me so many visits to figure out how I really feel about Iron Cactus. A four star rating may seem generous, but let me explain.

The main gripe about this place is the price. Shits expensive. I agree, but semi-understand because they’re on 6th St. and it’s a pricey place to lease… ok that’s out of the way, what’s next?

There’s a few mixed feelings about the food. I have them, you have them, they’re there. I personally would kill someone for the salsa (the salsa is the main chunk of the four stars) like, seriously this is the best salsa in Austin. I’m not talking about that fire roasted shit, I’m talking about that chilled, beautiful bowl of deliciousness. It’s. So. Good.

The fajitas are fine, they come out sizzling and that’s normally enough for me to be happy. The meat is a tad dry and the fajitas for two doesn’t contain that much more meat than the fajitas for one, but it does come with extra guac. What!? What!? Chipotle take note.

    Overall it’s a 3.5 star joint who’s salsa I’d bathe in.

  8. Pretty decent tequila at very decent prices! Went here abit after lunch hour on a triple date. Drank ourselves silly and stuffed ourselves full! The waitress had phenomenal eyebrows and boy did she know her tequila! They offer an extensive tequila selection so for those novice drinkers, it may seem a bit intimidating but the wait staff knows their stuff! So I’d trust them.

  9. Saw a lot of people in this place when I was around for South by, and decided to check this place out.

Totally legit texan mexican, and great margarita cocktails. Have been coming back here each year I’ve been to South-by ever since (SXSW 5 timer)

  10. The chicken fajitas were tasty. The carro beans were great! They were my favorite part of the meal.
The tortillas ate nothing special.  They tasted store bought. The rice was pretty good, though.

My husband got the three chili pork loin, which he enjoyed. One of the loins was a bit overcooked,  but it was still enjoyable.

  11. This review is based only on the Sunday Brunch.

The price is moderate and they have a good variety of dishes to choose from.  The staff does a very good job with keeping the dishes fresh and loaded. The servers keep your drinks filled.

Very friendly staff. Had a wonderful father’s day with my friends.
