MAE MARTIN is an award-winning comedian, actor, writer, and producer who hosts the hit comedy podcast HANDSOME alongside Tig Notaro and Fortune Feimster. Mae can currently be seen in OUTSTANDING: A COMEDY REVOLUTION, a Netflix documentary which premiered at the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival that explores the history of LGBTQ+ stand-up comedy and its importance as an instrument for social change over the past five decades.
Up next, Mae will co-showrun, star, write, and executive produce the highly anticipated Netflix thriller series WAYWARD, which they also created, starring Toni Collette. They are also at work on their debut EP which features all original music.
Recently, Mae hosted the CBC documentary FLUID: LIFE BEYOND THE BINARY. In addition to hosting the Canadian Screen Awards in May 2024, Mae also won a CSA for `Best Guest Performance, Comedy´ for their work on Crave´s I HAVE NOTHING.
Mae´s standup special SAP, directed by Abbi Jacobson, launched on Netflix in March 2023 to positive reviews and marked their hour-long comedy special debut. Mae received a Juno Award nomination for `Comedy Album of the Year´ for SAP.
Mae is best known for creating, starring, and writing FEEL GOOD, a critically acclaimed drama- comedy series for which they were nominated for a BAFTA Award. The first season, co-starring Lisa Kudrow and Charlotte Ritchie, launched in the US and globally on Netflix and on Channel 4 in the UK to widespread praise and a perfect 100% “Certified Fresh” score on Rotten Tomatoes. Mae´s stunning performance earned them a 2021 BAFTA TV Award nomination. FEEL GOOD also won The Edinburgh TV Award 2020 for “Best Series” as well as the “Best Comedy Drama Series” at the C21 Awards. The second season was lauded by fans and critics alike including INDIEWIRE who said the season was “…so damn good you may want to watch it all over again.”
In 2022, Mae joined the cast of HBO Max´s THE FLIGHT ATTENDANT and the following year, appeared as a contestant and won season 15 of Channel 4´s comedy game show TASKMASTER. Beloved for their stand-up comedy, Mae´s show DOPE was nominated for “Best Comedy Show” at the prestigious Edinburgh Comedy Awards while earning four- and five-star reviews in the UK. The show has since been turned in to a stand-up special for Netflix as part of the first global stand-up series, COMEDIANS OF THE WORLD.
Mae is also the author of Can Everyone Please Calm Down?: A Guide to 21st Century Sexuality, published in May 2019 by Wren and Rook, an imprint of Hachette.
