Discover Austin’s Legendary Basement Jazz Club

Elephant Room is tucked under 315 Congress since 1991. This classic Austin basement spot delivers that intimate, no-frills jazz experience locals love. Dim lights, a long narrow room with the stage at one end and bar running alongside, limited seating that goes fast — it all adds up to music that feels close and alive while you kick back with a solid drink. Jazz heads, students, and regular folks mix easily without any downtown pretension.

Live Jazz Seven Nights

Music plays every night, from Monday open jams full of local talent to weekend sets that bring the energy. No cover before 8pm makes it simple to drop in whenever the mood hits, and the small cover later keeps it real for everyone. For Austin-area folks wanting genuine live jazz, good drinks, and that unmistakable basement vibe without the hassle, The Elephant Room is the reliable win downtown.

  1. Absolutely loved my time at Elephant Room. The vibe was intimate, soulful, and full of character. What made the experience truly special was seeing such talented young musicians passionately keeping the live jazz culture alive. The energy and music made the whole place feel timeless. A must visit in Austin if you enjoy authentic live performances.

  2. This place was recommended by an Austin local. Nice Jazz bar in downtown Austin. Drinks were good. The place was nice felt cozy and intimate. Jazz band sounded great. There was a line to get in but it moved pretty quickly. I waited in line for about 10 minutes and I arrived there right before band started to play. I’d say you will probably wait longer in line if you arrive once band starts. Overall great experience and exactly what I was looking for in a casual Jazz bar.
