The Wheel is my favorite place to get a drink in town. It’s cool and hip, but also laid back and chill. There isn’t music blasting, and it’s usually chill enough that you can talk to your friends without yelling! Isn’t that kind of the point for a neighborhood hangout?

OK – lets talk the drinks…

The beer selection of maybe 10-12 taps is always good and interesting. There are always a couple of nice hoppy choices, a sour or two, something seasonal, and a couple cool experiments from the local breweries.

There is a whiskey of the day for 4 bucks, and if you are a whiskey noob like me, it is a fun and cheaper way of trying out a few of em.

The cocktails I have tried or stolen a sip from a friend have all been great. The Madison is my go to – a fun twist on an Old Fashioned.

And if you’re hungry go ahead and order some food at Austin Daily Press and they will deliver to your table.. the Jalapeno Hush Puppies and the housemade chips are great bar snacks! Also, if you don’t have access to laundry at your place, you should probably start up a load next door, and come have a drink while you wait 🙂

The Wheel hosted Environment Texas’ annual holiday party. It went great! We are a local nonprofit, and the place was the perfect mix of upscale and casual for our mix of politicians and members. We fit about 35 people, a band, a table for food, and a raffle in after anticipating it would take over the patio area. Ayron was easy to work with and flexible about many of our needs. What an awesome little spot!

Very solid local joint with outstanding cocktails and a well educated bar staff. Excellent liquor selection without trying to have “every” bottle available.

They support local suppliers, have a vintage bike shop theme (as well as pump and equip), and spin classic vinyl from a turntable amidst the bottles behind the bar…go there, you won’t regret.
