ATX TV Festival presents TSTV Student Pilot Showcase
Join us as we screen five original pilots created by students of the TSTV (Texas Student Television, University of Texas) Incubator Program, a year-long, student-led program that guides a select group of students through the process of pitching, writing, and producing their first half-hour television pilot. Designed to teach the fundamentals of modern independent filmmaking within a student setting, the Program gives students the opportunity and skills to bring their unique stories to life.
Over the past year, ATX TV has partnered with TSTV to provide the Incubator Program’s students with feedback on their original pilot ideas, scripts, and production plans; and organize guest industry speakers for the class. Now, the pilots they’ve produced will premiere on the big screen as part of ATX TV Festival’s TSTV Student Pilot Showcase.
The five pilots being screened this year include:
PULSE, created by Savannah Hilliard, Lucy Phenix, Ben Orell, Karen Dominguez, and Josie Hurt — In the world of music, money, and fashion, Nico is torn between family and his ambition, leaving him to decide whether to betray his brother to achieve success as a manager for boxing events.
STUDENT FILM, created by Knox Wright, Neemay Shah, Savan Parikh, Claire Millet, and Caitlyn Rodriguez — Under extreme pressure, a college film crew has one last day to finish their thesis film, but they find their shoot colliding with a campus-wide gun control protest in the wake of a recent school shooting.
THE QUEEN, created by Gabbi Coppa, Izzy Benthin, Ethan Xavier, Davis Raffo, and Luca Balescu — When a socially anxious teen who lives in the shadow of her prom queen sister starts to experience extreme physical symptoms and hallucinations of alien royalty, she must confront whether she is destined for greatness or losing her mind.
THIS CALL MAY BE RECORDED, created by Cullen Ryan, Clayton Laney, Anirdesh Mandavilli, Ava Vanna, and Brooklyn Rice — Will, a broke college graduate, accepts a job at a sketchy telemarketing agency with his roommate, but after realizing what the job entails, Will begins to question his morals as he grapples with choosing money over the well-being of others.
WINE TO WATER, created by Quinn Graves, Tim Robertson, Bryan Nam, Mattea Gallaway, and Reyna Almquist — After hitting rock bottom, a washed-up actor receives drunken visions from the mysterious Booze and gathers a group of well-intentioned screwups to try to help their community, and themselves.
