This spring, the monthly CineNoche series hosted by Cine Las Americas at Violet Crown Cinema features documentaries spotlighting women’s activism in Latin America. MUJERES EN LA LUCHA represents 5 regions and brings to the fore conversations around land and water rights, migration, reproductive rights, state violence and more. At the center of the stories are the unwavering women fighting for their communities. Pre-recorded Q&A’s with the filmmakers will follow the screenings.

Synopsis-
On March 2, 2016, environmental activist Berta Cáceres was gunned down by hired hitmen. She had led the Lenca people in their efforts to stop the construction of a hydroelectric plant on the Gualcarque River. Before her assassination, Cáceres wrote down the names of the people and companies who wanted her dead. Using these clues, a local journalist and an international lawyer put the puzzle pieces together to solve her murder.
