James Shelton’s Steel Guitar
James Shelton is widely regarded as one of Austin’s premier pedal steel guitarists, with more than three decades of professional touring, recording, and teaching experience.
Since relocating from Nashville to Austin in 2007, he has become one of the city’s most sought-after steel players, equally at home in traditional country, Western swing, Americana, and honky-tonk.
Shelton began playing pedal steel guitar at age 15 and was working professionally by 18. Throughout his career he has performed and recorded with an impressive list of artists, including Vern Gosdin, Johnny Rodriguez, Johnny Bush, Dale Watson, Gary P. Nunn, Darrell McCall, The Derailers, The Tejas Brothers, Brennen Leigh, Whitney Rose, Chris Shiflett, and Heybale.
His tasteful playing and deep knowledge of classic country music have made him one of Texas’ most respected sidemen.
