Live Music: South Austin Jug Band
The South Austin Jug Band was one of the bands that defined Austin’s roots revival in the early 2000s.
Formed around a weekly residency at the old Momo’s on South Congress, the group brought together James Hyland, Warren Hood, Willie Pipkin, Matt Slusher, and Will Dupuy for a sound that borrowed from bluegrass, western swing, folk, country, and rock without fitting neatly into any one category.
Ironically, they never played a jug, and despite winning three straight Austin Music Awards for Best Bluegrass Band, they’d be the first to tell you they weren’t really a bluegrass band.
Experience the Continental Club on South Congress with nightly live music, legendary performers. One of Austin's most iconic venues.
