Located in the heart of Historic 6th Street in Austin, Texas, Burnside’s Tavern is your place to enjoy local draft beer, handmade cocktails, and great music.

Burnside’s is located on 6th Street between Trinity and Neches. Conveniently situated just two blocks from the Austin Convention Center, the establishment is named after one of the worst Civil War Generals, Ambrose Burnside.

”Ambrose Burnside had been the most unfortunate commander of the Army, a general who had been cursed by succeeding its most popular leader and a man who believed he was unfit for the post. His tenure had been marked by bitter animosity among his subordinates and a fearful, if not needless, sacrifice of life. A firm patriot, he lacked the power of personality and will to direct recalcitrant generals.”

The interior of Burnside’s Tavern features 5 stunning chandeliers along with portraits of Civil War Generals. If you’re looking for live music, come by Thursday – Saturday between 7p – 10p for live music from local musicians.

  1. What a cool place. Price was super friendly and that Old Fashioned was incredible.

  2. Fun bar with nice drinks, live music and cool theme. We played a game of beer pong in the back, which was a blast although the cups could certainly use a cleaning. The quotes from historical folks on the wall are comical.

  3. Just a great bar. Being from New Orleans, I love a great bar with no bullshit. This is one. Cheap drinks, TVs (we were watching NFL playoffs), and their bartenders rock. Swing in!

  4. Elegant decor and nice dLoved it! No loud music so you can have a nice chat if you’re with someone. Tasty margaritas! Happy hour has amazing deals! And they even have a speakeasy downstairs after 11pm. Can’t wait to get back!

  5. This was a nice chill bar. They had some decent beer specials. We hung out here for about an hour while there was a monsoon out on 6th street. People were walking in it soaked while we sipped down our beers watching in delight. Good times.

  6. Best watering hole on 6th. Found my favorite Austin band of all time there, for once in my life had my fill of moscow mules, discovered I like big pictures of guys with side burns, and for me, it is the only bar on 6th that feels like it has a soul. They added a bunch of shiny crystal chandeliers recently, and now the place is swarming with hotties. Smart move gents.

  7. This place is great. Awesome drinks and atmosphere (I love the chandeliers). Elisa is AMAZING! She made one of the best old fashioneds I’ve ever had and she was sweet and helpful- she even gave us some house hunting tips since we’re not super familiar with the area. If a manager is reading this, give the girl a raise or something, please! We had a wonderful experience.

  8. Always end my Thursday nights here! Super fun, packed, with great mix of music. They play country! I love it here.
Burnsides has a wonderful local draft selection and the whiskey selection is choice. Ask for Mike and Emily!!

  9. I loved this bar! I went in on a Saturday afternoon and got $3 Moscow Mules and draft beer! (can’t beat that price!). The service was extremely friendly and the vibe was very casual. The decor was pretty cool too with very unique walls and artsy portraits. Looks like it can get pretty fun at night with a beer pong table in the middle! Definitely recommend going here! Can’t go wrong for a $3 Moscow Mule!

  10. I have all great things to say about this bar, however I only went there one night (a Wednesday) for about an hour. I was downtown with a group of friends and we had just left an (amazing) Yelp event and were looking for a place to have another drink before calling it a night. We were walking along 6th (probably on the way to Maggie Mae’s…as usual) when we heard the voice of an angel yelling to us-“Free champagne!”. I don’t associate with people who decline offers such as these, so we went into Burnside and had a great time with lots of bubbles. Being a Wednesday, it wasn’t especially busy but we met some new people, played a little beer pong, and danced in celebration of hump day. Also, there was a guy there taking requests who was AWESOME and basically played us any song we wanted. I don’t know how this place is when it gets busy, but for a Wednesday semi-late night, I’d say it was pretty spot on.

  11. Great bar right on 6th street in Austin. Friendly staff, good drink prices and a friendly staff. I’m convinced this place also has the best door man in Austin!!!

  12. Nice spot on 6th. Although shaped a bit awkwardly (long rectangle), they did a great job fixing this place up from it’s prior incarnation. The best part about this place is the staff–they are awesome and do a great job taking care of everyone in the bar!! The bands play in the stage area toward the front of the bar & they have had some good ones. A bright spot on dirty 6th!

  13. I stopped by this bar last night and it was very nice, the drink was on point and reasonably priced. I love the TV’s, the long bar, it was busy but service was still great, and I love the chandeliers too. The DJ was awesome too! A good place to dance, drink, and watch sports!
