Legendary beer. A new favorite hangout.

Come be part of the legendary magic of Celis in our one-of-a-kind Copper Kettle Taproom. Sit back, relax, and enjoy Pierre’s original witbiers and Christine’s new ones in an Old World-inspired tasting room that’s unlike any other in Austin.

Celis Brewery, founded by Christine Celis in Austin, Texas, brews Belgian-style ales, including the original witbier that Pierre Celis brewed in Hoegaarden. The brewery is an extension of the Celis family legacy and builds on the award-winning craft beer heritage for which the family is known.

  1. I came here with my friend and my husband. I actually hate beer (sorry), but I came as company. This was actually our first time visiting. They got the beer flight. There was a Groupon for it, and it seemed like a good deal! They had such a great time and said the beers were amazing. Place is def dog friendly which is super cool and has a very chill laid back vibe. Definitely felt comfortable. As we were heading out, a band was setting up to play. We went in on a Sunday so I guess they have live music on Sunday evenings. Maybe also other days? Not sure but worth a google. I also noticed they have weekly events which seem like fun. For example, chicken shit bingo. Staff seemed busy but chill. Definitely wouldn’t mind coming back!

  2. Came here to hang out with a small group on a Wednesday night. They have a big open space well suited to groups big and small. They also have events pretty regularly like weekly trivia and I saw posters for a democratic debate viewing party happening the next day.

The vibe here is very relaxed, they’re dog friendly, have a couple of board games and a ping pong table. They had a food truck outside that seems to rotate fairly often. If you’re up around the area and looking for a chill place to hang out after work you can’t beat the vibe.

The only thing I had to give them a small knock for was the beer. I tried a flight and went mostly with the (very friendly I might add) bartenders recommendations. Outside of their standard witte they were all quite extreme versions of their respective flavors.

Their hazy ipa was super biter and lacked that usual juicy quality you’d expect from the name. The lime Berliner weisse and raspberry wheat were both missing much non fruit flavor. If you has given them to me blind I would have thought they were both sours.

  3. It was a little touch and go last year in 2019 about whether Celis would stay open, but I’m happy they managed to figure out how to keep the doors open as this is our favorite brewery in Austin.

Hubby and I are big fans of wheat beers and Celis does not disappoint. A not so secret combo is the White Lightning which is a combination of Celis White and their Grand Cru. Try it!

As for me, I’m a big fan of the Lime Berliner Weisse. I like sour beers and this one is subtley sour and not bitter at all. I would say it is the best beer for people who don’t like beer in general.

Come at a time when they are doing tours and go behind the scenes to check out the back facility. Love seeing their operation.

They also participate in Barks for Beers!

  4. Love Sunday night blues!!! And they have other fun events and delicious beer. Also, I was impressed recently with the manager Teresa when I messed up my to-go order of cans and she smoothly helped me figure it out. And it’s dog-friendly INSIDE. Our sweet pup loves to come for Sunday night blues with Ted Hall. There’s usually a yummy food truck outside, too!

  5. I love the selection of beers. My personal favorites are the sour cherry and the coffee porter. Always a welcoming environment!

  6. Trivia NIght every 3rd Friday is really fun there! The beers are great and tall ceilings so you don’t feel cramped! We’ve been twice and will definitely be back!

  7. Dog friendly place!! Treats are even given to the dogs! We got a flight so that we could have a taste of different brews. My favorite was the mango. We got a full glass after sampling them. We got the pomegranate, raspberry, a Pilsner, and of course the mango! It was pretty dead on a Sunday night but still a cool place to hang out at.

  8. Very low key brewery, but well decorated and stocked with games and goodies! You can visit their gift shop for any brew merch and sit at the original still in the center of the place to enjoy a delicious Belgian inspired beer.

  9. What a cute little location! I love that there were games for the tables and that it wasn’t crazy loud on a Saturday night. The staff was friendly and helpful and the beer delicious. Throw in the cornucopia I had for a snack and it was a great evening with friends.

  10. Love Celis beer. Great atmosphere inside- outside not so much. Maybe think about adding a beer garden. Raspberry on tap is a favorite!!

  11. Celis has a good assortment of beers and I love that they offer a daily $3 special (see photo of deals). The space is neat with the bar located in the center. Ample seating indoors, some outdoors but unfortunately limited shade outside. LOTS of parking which was essential when we visited as they were hosting a Girl’s Rock event with local vendors, artisans, and girl bands.

  12. Stopped in on a Sunday afternoon and it was quite busy. The white is fabulous as were the other beers in my flight. I highly recommend this brewery.

  13. By far, hands down, one of the best breweries in Austin, and beyond. They have the widest selection of beers, including amazing winter lagers and pale bocks. There is a rotating food truck and they have music & events. They are dog friendly as well!

  14. Came with some friends to enjoy North Atx breweries.

As an Austin transplant, I first heard about it through my first 6-pack from HEB. I fell in love with their Celis White, and I was super stoked when we walked into their beautiful tap room. The taptenders are behind the bar that’s built in a cool circular format with glossy wood for a vintage feel. The taproom itself is huge and spacious. Service was downright wonderful, and their restrooms are clean and easy to access. We sat at the tap tending area, but there are TONS of spaces and tables for larger groups. I can see this place as a hangout for all of my friends if only we lived closer!

The beers are lovely too. I got the flight of four because there were so many I wanted to taste. My favorite ones were the Juicy IPA and Grand Cru. The Passionfruit leaned more on the sour side, and the pineapple one was tasty, but on the pale-r side of my tastes. In all, the selection was wonderful and I feel like any beer lover can find something they want to drink.

Parking is plentiful, the interior is spacious, and they’re dog-friendly indoors. That’s basically everything every beer person can ask for. I also love that you can find Celis in your neighborhood grocery store! BEER FOR THE PEOPLE!

  15. The beer is great–I’m still thinking about their sour. The people are great. The music choices were awesome. I can’t wait to go back. I think Celis might be my favorite brewery in Austin.

  16. I have been to Celis a hand full of times since it’s opening. Was not too impress the first visit (because the lack of beers. But I get it, they were new and just opened). I was too fast to judge. The next few times there was a bigger range of options along with guest beers and beers from uncle Billy’s. Went tonight with the husband and for a Wednesday it was pretty crowded. They were having a chocolate and beer pairing, which we didn’t participate in but seems like a great idea. Mostly because it is the day before valentines. I was really impressed with their menu because it really seems like they have so many more options then I remember! I got the tripel along with the Russian stout. I obviously wanted to stay to try more, but being a week night, couldn’t get too crazy . The environment is not the wearhousy feel like the other local breweries, which I feel would be real nice closer to summer. I also love that it’s only a mile from my house! Will definitely be back soon!

  17. Take a second to read about Celis’s history and story — they’re one of the first craft breweries in the state of Texas and personify so much about what Texas and Austin are about: never give up, work hard, and beer is an important part of life!

After you do that, go have some beer. You’ll find out that they’re making some stellar brews–almost all of the Belgian variation–that will make your tastebuds dance. And something for everyone: tripel (my fave), IPA, sour, stout, etc. Their beer ranks among my favorite of Austin craft breweries.

The vibe of the taproom is fun + chill, not obnoxious like some taprooms.

Celis is also one of our favorite places for Geeks Who Drink trivia (Tuesday nights). Always a fun time, and prizes consist of gift certificates to Celis!

They often have food trucks in the parking lot (the ~5 we’ve tried so far have all been excellent). AND, they’re in the process of building a beer garden on the side that looks HUGE and has a pretty big stage … so look for some cool stuff coming later this year!

  18. Heh heh. The open mic karaoke is tons of fun to watch slightly to moderately buzzed people go up the stairs and belch out their fav tunes.

Also, the ping pong table was really fun to play!

Easier to find than some of the other breweries around that could all be walking distance!

  19. Came for Trivia Tuesday at 7:00 PM. The crowd was a nice fun group with some dogs also enjoying the good vibes. The witbier was one of the best brews I’ve had in Austin and the Raspberry beer was easily one of the best Raspberry beers I’ve had in the US. Coming from a state that loves their hops and beer in Colorado, I don’t say that lightly. I highly suggest Celis Brewery!

  20. We had a great experience here when we stopped in on a Friday afternoon. Had the pleasure of talking to T. and Fish who informed us of the rich history of this brewery and the Celis family. I really enjoyed the Grapefruit Maximus and Juicy East Coast IPA. Everyone there was happy and having a great time. I appreciate being able to sample the different beers prior to ordering as well as being able to chat with T. and Fish while we enjoyed a piece of history right here in Austin.

  21. This is a journey in history and flavor well worth taking.

It’s good to have such a long-loved piece of Austin history revived. It is not without irony that the brewery is not only revived, but has evolved with Austin. It’s up north where the population is booming. It has a polished, old-school-chic tasting room much like many of the new eateries and pubs in Austin. But, unlike most of the new eateries and pubs catering to millennials, this place actually has organic roots in Austin and it’s new digs reflect Celis’ heritage.

The tasting room is spacious and multi-leveled. It’s shape almost gives you the feel of being inside a giant vat in the brewery. The walls are lined with images of Pierre Celis and his brewery after coming from Europe to give Austin the taste of his homeland. The original craft brewery disappeared after a major corporate buyout. But now Celis’ daughter has fought to bring the brewery home and the brews stay true to the heritage of it’s founder. Sipping a Celis White here brings back great memories of the 90’s and the tasting room allows you to connect with the brew’s passionate creators. There are many more brews than just the White on tap. The staff today are also passionate about the beers they present and you can enjoy flights of the craft brews you select. It is well worth the trip.

  22. Belgium comes to Austin.

Ole man Celis came from overseas to start this beer back in the day and people high and low loved this beer. They loved this beer so much that many fans became depressed when it went out of availability. Christina Celis continues her fathers legacy today and has brought back the original recipe good stuff. If you haven’t tasted Celis beer you are missing out. Drink it fresh from the source at the brewery, facilities are pretty and fresh and clean and full of a great historical story. The Barkeep dude explained the story to my sister when I was failing the details. He told a kick ass story. Delicious beer with history and delight.
