Cisco’s, an iconic East Austin breakfast & lunch spot, is steeped in Texas politics and Tex Mex (featuring their legendary migas breakfast plate).

Breakfast and lunch all day including classic breakfasts, the “Wolf Omelette”, fajitas, enchiladas, tacos, carne guisada and a killer chicken friend steak. Cisco’s has operated in the 102-year-old building on the corner of East Sixth and Comal since Rudy Cisneros opened the restaurant in 1943, after turning his father’s bakery into a restaurant.

Cisco’s has long been the meeting place for Austin’s politically inclined. LBJ and Bob Bullock were known to regularly hold court over coffee and breakfast here. Matt Cisneros, Rudy “Cisco” Cisneros’ grandson continues the Cisco’s tradition, preserving great eastside breakfasts and an iconic East Austin institution.

  2. Great food and super friendly service! We had the Migas plate and the pancakes and both were copious and tasty. A great way to start the day 🙂

  3. Beef fajitas, cheese enchiladas, beef taco and rice and beans were all spot on. Prices were decent and service was prompt. I’m glad places like this still exist in Austin.

  4. Definitely recommend. If you don’t at the very least have some tacos and a beer here you’ve waisted your trip to Austin. This is a great “mom & pops” local joint you must check out and the manager Roman makes you feel like a local.

  5. I can’t believe I’ve been in Austin for 10 years and I just experienced Cisco’s for the first time! Do me a favor and don’t you make the same mistake!

The spot is on East 6th and has been there for over 75 years! Wow! The memories are on the walls throughout the restaurant making it a unique environment. They are serving up a classic Mexican type breakfast. I ordered the pancake breakfast and got my eggs migas style. My husband ordered the migas breakfast. We also got an extra side of papas. My pancakes were thin and delicious! My kid actually took them over once she realized how good they were. I also ordered the horchata aguas frescas – get it! We also each had a biscuit with our meals. Don’t skip out on the Cisco’s biscuit! They were golden, soft and fluffy. Perfect for some butter and jelly. If you are looking for a good breakfast definitely stop in here! I’m a new fan and will be returning soon.

  6. Years ago, East Austin was full of family owned Tex-Mex joints that had been around for years. Places like Carmen’s La Tapitia, Nuevo Leon, Don Limon, and El Azteca hold a lot of memories for me of an Austin before it became hip and trendy.

But yet, after living here for over 38 years, I’d never tried Cisco’s mainly because I thought it was only a breakfast option. However, something inspired me on Saturday night to check to see Cisco’s menu and hours.

Thus, I ended up at Cisco’s for a late Sunday lunch. I couldn’t have been happier to pull up at one of the few places in East Austin that hasn’t been gentrified and doesn’t use hipster terms.

Parking is a bit of a chore, so come at an odd time like I did. (Although I think one of the paid lots nearby has a few spots reserved for Cisco’s.) When you walk in, it looks like an East Coast diner with a small counter and a handful of tables.

But when you get to the menu, it’s classic old school Tex-Mex as well as a ton of breakfast options.

Since it was a late lunch, I ordered the Cisco’s Special as well as an order of chips and salsa. The salsa is just a bit thicker than a thin salsa, but has a powerful kick. The crispy beef taco is a perfect combination of ground beef and cheese that is just classic old school Tex-Mex. The cheese enchilada is huge — and is a perfect combination of cheese and chili gravy. The quarter pound of fajita meat was a nice addition as well as it was well seasoned and very well done. (The two flour tortillas meant I was able to turn the fajitas into two more tacos and added some more of the salsa.) The rice was very good — moist and fluffy with some good seasoning. The one change that Cisco’s makes to the usual Tex-Mex combinations is their potato wedge, which was a really nice addition. Basically, think of a potato cut maybe into eighths or fourths and lightly fried. In other words, it tastes just like a breakfast potato but looks like a giant steak fry.

Long story short. Cisco’s is a perfect reminder of the old East Austin and serves some of the best Tex-Mex anywhere. Please visit this local gem so it doesn’t get turned into another hipster paradise.

  7. Tex mex that is open for breakfast lunch and dinner. There is a bar they serve beer and cocktails.

Complimentary chips and salsa; salsa is so good and fresh although some might find it too hot.

Service is always fast it’s about $15 for a breakfast or lunch entree.

    Sometimes there is live music.

  8. DTW to AUS to Cisco’s. That was my itinerary! Started my visit to Austin off right with a visit to this classic Mexican restaurant, a jewel of Austin food history, and just the place to fuel up on long-missed Tex-Mex! If it had been breakfast I would have done Migas, but it was a late dinner so I opted for a Chicken Taco Salad. Good choice! Satisfied my craving with perfectly seasoned shredded chicken, roasted corn and a flaky, edible bowl (Si! I ate it!) My sweet, cute ride from the airport ordered Jessica’s Special and queso and reported it was yum too. We arrived after 8 p.m. on a Friday night but found parking on the street right out front, where there was a lot of foot traffic and music floating out from other nearby venues. Definitely a fun area of Austin to visit.

  10. Quite honestly the best Tex-Mex I’ve ever had. We rolled in after a long flight and were greeted by a fantastic first meal. The chips and salsa were absolutely phenomenal, so much so that I would go back just for that! We ordered the Friday lunch special (enchiladas) a chorizo and egg taco, a migas taco and a crispy beef taco. I was absolutely blown away and was quite impressed with the prices. In addition, the service was fantastic. Everybody was incredibly kind and we got our food quickly.

    Highly recommend!

  11. Great happy hour specials. The service is impeccable. Our server Jesus was great and made sure to bring us tons of salsa and water refills. They serve breakfast ALL DAY! The breakfast tacos are quite large as well. Highly recommend this spot. It has won quite a few awards for being an awesome location in Austin and they are well deserved.

  12. Oh how I love you, Cisco’s!

I have a lot of fond memories of this place that go back to 2010 when I first started coming here after a night out at the bars.

I honestly think Cisco’s has the best breakfast tacos in Austin. That’s right, even better than Torchy’s! Cisco’s just hits the spot and puts me in my happy place every time.

It’s got a hole-in-the-wall vibe and is located in a cool area. The staff is nice and, like I said, the food is great and they also have a full bar in case you’re feeling a little bit boozy.

My favorite thing to get is their bacon, egg & cheese tacos. HITS THE SPOT. Now, excuse me while I go daydream about having Cisco’s again.

  13. Delicious breakfast tacos. Recommend the migas. And the mimosas were made with the best OJ I’ve had. The staff is great and lots of places to sit inside. Definitely worth a stop for brunch anytime in Austin!

  14. This is one of the last true Tex-Mex joints in Austin. You won’t find fancy table ware or furniture, but you will find a great meal below market prices. This is the place you go in the morning for a solid breakfast that will ladt most of the day. Lunch is excellent as well, just want to take a nap afterwards because you will be stuffed. The prices range between $4 – $12 a plate. You will be pleased with the amount of food and happy you didn’t need more than $10.

  15. Oh my G this was so good! As prior reviewers have mentioned, the juicy picadillo served in a bolillo is the secret, but the migas are delicious too and the BISCUITS Good Lord! I am guessing Cisco’s is one of the last pieces of realness left in Austin.

  16. Honest good food served at a great price. Would be very happy to come back to a place like this.

  17. Terrific Example of a good Mexican breakfast! We had migas and bloody Mary’s. Perrrfect! Right on the corner of Comal and E 6th. U go foodies! It’s good and good for you!

  18. I can’t wait until the day I get to come here again for the MIGAS. It is truly delicious- flavorful and savory, you can taste the love that was put into making it.

You would never expect the back side if the restaurant to be so large from the facade. A family owned restaurant, it has great servers and attentive service. The place was packed on a Sunday morning, bustling with families, friends, and even hard core students who clearly hadn’t slept the night before.

The inside is a bit dimly lit, with natural sunshine coming from the windows. The bathroom is a bit awkwardly placed, in the midst of tables. Let’s just say I wouldn’t want to be sitting at that particular table that’s right by the door. Moving on, the parking situation is alright, there are a lot of areas for street parking. Few buildings have cool murals on it so you can even go for a little walk to burn some of the indulgence.

You get fluffy biscuits and coffee in thick mugs. A very homey sense here, kind of like a family friend invited you over and wanted to cook brunch for you.

  19. A group of us came here after our first-choice brunch spot had over an hour wait. As my very last restaurant stop on my 10-day Texas tour, I had very high expectations and was not disappointed! Loved the kitschy diner, hole-in-the-wall feel – almost felt like we were stepping back in time – and the service was super warm and friendly, just like you’d expect from such a place. The huevos rancheros were everything I’d hoped for and I loved that we got both tortilla and biscuits! Delicious!!

I’m kind of sad I never discovered Ciscos during the three years I lived in Austin, but I’ll definitely be coming back the next time I’m in town!
