For over 22 years, the Flamingo Cantina has been known as the people’s favorite venue in Austin to see what we call “good vibes music” – live reggae, ska, latin and worldbeat music, as well as rock, hip hop, alternative and more.

The venues worked with thousands of artists, including many international artists from nearly every continent. From the sounds of Afro-Cuban artist Ricardo Lemvo, to the amazing dancing and singing of the Mahotella Queens, to the Rastafarian reggae riddems performed by Burning Spear and other artists, the shows as well as the artists at Flamingo Cantina are legendary.

Many artists who perform at the Flamingo Cantina enjoy the intimate nature of the room and comment on the “good vibe” the feel from the audience. The shows at our venue are unlike any other. The artists themselves will tell you they keep returning to get more of that “vibe” of the people and the place.

  4. Great venue to see bands and to perform at, great sound and fun atmosphere with the stadium seating platforms all around. The upstairs patio is really nice and chill too, and the green room is relaxing and comfy.

  6. Best vibe of any place I’ve been on dirty 6th. Great live music every night they are open, super genuine people own and work there. Locally and woman owned since the 90’s – WE LOVE FLAMINGO!

  7. Seriously amazing place to enjoy authentic reggae music and an amazing and welcoming staff not to mention the owners. The place to go for some roots vibes once you are in Austin

  8. Reggae vibes in the live music capital of the world, not much more you can ask for. Super chill setup, great staff, sound system on point, and never crazy people inside like most spots off dirty 6th tend to be filled with. Free reggae night on Wednesday’s and open mic Jamdowns on Thursday is where it’s at. Although I live for the roots reggae songs they play on Wednesday’s…it’d be nice to hear a little modern reggae as well mixed in (stick figure, slightly stoopid, barrington Levy, Sublime, rebelution, etc stuff like that).

  9. One of the very best places in Austin to catch a variety of music from around the world – not just reggae but also African, Brazilian, Latin…. plus hip-hop. Great rooftop lounge too! A must visit kind of place for anybody in from out of town.

  10. Flamingo Cantina is a great venue! Best place in Austin to check out local, regional and national ska/reggae/rocksteady acts. Drinks aren’t too expensive and the staff is friendly! I’m always impressed by the sound quality in such a small place!

  11. Nicest bunch of folk in the whole darn city! Been going there for 19 years! Intimacy of venue offers a chance to see incredible acts all close-up and personal like. Jamaican food in back is authentic and delicious!

  13. One of the best venues that I have seen in a long time. I like how the patio/balcony is combined with the main room. The sound is on point.

  14. I came here on a Saturday night to see this reggae band that was playing at midnight. When I got there I was surprised but it was pretty darn empty, but I wasn’t looking for a big crowd so I was fine with it. They have $7 happy meal specials which is a tall boy lone star and a well shot. They’ve got neat stadiumish seating with a dance floor to watch the band. You can also go upstairs to the patio that overlooks the inside too. If the weather is nice, this place is pretty enjoyable. The band was great. I would definitely come back again to start off with a chill reggae night then pop on anywhere next door!

  15. A great bar for a show! Cool location, great layout. I would love to do a show here on a weekend night when it’s full. The staff were real troupers putting up with a small crowd until the wee hours. They have some good audio gear and an overall good vibe.

  16. The most intimate Live Music setting in the city of Austin. Legendary for its longevity and the Headquarters for World Music in the Live Music Capital of the World. It sits in the Heart of the entertainment district at 515 E. 6th St. and is one of the last of its kind. Almost every Live music venue has been pushed away from the strip and forced to relocate for commercializations purposes. This Venue has been a Home to me me for many years. Always irie vibes here.

  17. Flamingo Cantina is one of those places when you go there you’re going to have a great time listen to some awesome music with one of the best sound systems in Austin. I prefer reggae. Not just for local artists but with a lot of major headliners artists for A big show in a small venue flamingo Cantina is the place to be

  18. This place is the place to be on Tuesdays! Great music, and great people at the second-floor balcony. I received a tip to come here from a bartender and this place does not disappoint. They have a decent dance floor on the first floor, with stadium bleacher-type seating and a live band playing reggae and ska. The drinks here aren’t too bad either.

  19. I love this place! On Wednesday nights this place host the NORML meetings and there is a live band playing reggae music. It’s on 6th street but it feels like your somewhere tropical and like your about to walk out to a beach. Maybe I was drunk when I felt that but the upstairs is the place to be when looking to chill and enjoy the music.

  20. This joint had everything I’ve ever wanted in a reggae bar:

-The Mau Mau Chaplains (a great band that floated between 6-19 members).
-A hippie hula-hooping barefoot on the filthy dance floor.
    -Reasonably priced drinks.
    -No cover.
    -Plenty of seating.
-Nice staff that tactfully escorted a kid passed out on the ground out of the bar.

And one thing I never want, ever:

-A homeless man that followed us inside and brought the lovely aroma of piss along with him.

  21. Great venue and the Mau Mau Chaplains are awesome reggae band. Monthly meeting place for Texas Norml Open Monthly Meeting… each first Wednesday… no fooling!

  22. Came back to Austin after 18 years in San Diego. Still happy to see the Flamingo is still opened. The place is just great. Back in the day it was fun to go upstairs to take a smoke break and not worry about the man. Haven’t been there since I got back but can’t see that it changed that much. Great live shows, dance floor butts right up against the stage. Can’t really complain about the drinks due to the fact that my one hitter gets me by.
Very cool vibe and a great place to dance. Can’t say enough about the place. See you there.
