The Halal Bros has focused on serving the finest Middle Eastern food that Austin has to offer and the students at UT have noticed. Their signature wraps and rice plates come with large portions, great for stretching that student dollar into two meals. Thusly the Guadalupe store on West Campus is usually full of students, books and laptops.

Halal Bros’ epic food truck to brick-and-mortar store is a great Austin story, but the delicious kebabs, wraps, rice plates, falafel and excellent pita bread are the headlines.

  1. Favorite halal place in Austin!! Thanks for being there all those nights when I was stressed with school and assignments and you were open to serve me some hot and spicy chicken shawarma over rice. *heart emoji*

  2. BEST FALAFEL! Boy was I surprised when my food arrived! I ordered sides as I didn’t want rice or bread. The falafel would have been plenty for my lunch, and it came with lettuce and hummus…mmm! I also had a side of dolmas and hummus which I took home. Everything was delicious!

  3. I will premise this review by saying I only ever order Combo over rice, but it’s SO GOOD!

This is a great lunch or dinner place! I usually come here for lunch, because the portions are BIG and I usually have enough to take home and eat for dinner. Like I said earlier, I always order combo over rice, which is a mix of meats (lamb, chicken) with fresh veggies and rice. This mixture is delightful to the senses, and in combo with their delicious white sauce, becomes AMAZING! It’s always so filling and tastes fresh and flavorful. I usually avoid the red sauce because I’m highly sensitive to spicy foods, but my friends tell me it’s also great to mix in if you can tolerate spice. Great place to eat overall!

    PROS:
    – sizable portions for the food and for the price
    – white sauce and red sauce are great toppings
    – combo over rice offers great variety all in one

    CONS:
    – feels a bit cramped on the inside

  4. Popular for.a reason. Tasty food at a good price. Meat selection (many choices as well as vegan falafel) either as a wrap or over rice. Rice meal comes with a lovely salad as well. Gyro was better than the chicken shawarma. All served with white and red sauce. Red is genuinely spicy. Not super spicy but more than some might be ready for. Get it on the side if you are not sure. Humus great. Falafel a great side (it comes with a bit of humus as a bonus). The only disappointment was the baklava. Sugar was a bit grainy The place is mad with take out orders. Parking is a bit of a challenge as well.

  5. I’ve been hearing about Halal Bros for some time from people and I can see why it’s hyped up. This food is definitely far better than Halal Guys that have sprung up in Texas. If given the choice, I’d choose Halal Bros each time. I had the combination platter and the the portion is like Texas – huge! The gyro meat was flavorful and not dry at all. The chicken was not as flavorful as the gyro, but seasoned well. Make sure you grab a bottle of the white sauce. The white sauce just levels up your dish.

We thought we’d get a side too (before we knew the portion size) so we ordered the hummus. The hummus was creamy, but the only fault I had with the side was that it only came with one pita. For so much hummus and just one pita seemed off.

The next time I’m in Austin, i’m definitely going to Halal Bros. No doubt.

  6. Omg their gyros are so good!! Unlike the other places their portion sizes are huge and the sauce is spicy!! Whether you prefer rice or a wrap you can not go wrong either way.

  7. I cannot express how much I have been craving Halal Bros since I left Austin last. The food is just fresh tasting and amazing. The staff were very friendly to us. We came in close to 6:00pm and it was not busy inside, we did not have to wait long for our food either. I enjoyed the combination plate with extra red sauce.

Please build a location in San Antonio SOON! The rice alone is worth the drive to Austin. Till next time…

  8. How is it that we’ve never been to this place yet after living in austin for 14 years? Halal bros is absolutely amazing. Their portions are HUGE, you literally can make 3 meals out of it. The chicken is super moist and juicy and flavorful, and the lamb and the beef are just as delicious as well. Their Falafel is literally the best falafel I’ve ever tasted on my life. I can’t wait to come back here again, and again, and again, and again…..

  9. Quick bite of delicious Mediterranean food with BIG portions!!! I absolutely loved their chicken dish. They have a creamy white sauce and red spicy sauce you can put on at your preference. Both were addicting to me.
The workers were nice too! No reason not to go back.

  10. Did I come here after a drunken night on 6th street? Yes.
    Was the food bomb? Yes.
Is it still an accurate review of how good the food is even though I was under the influence? I think so!
We got the lamb rice platter and pretty much devoured it between 2 people. You know how the drunchies can get. The lamb was tender and flavorful, not gamy at all. The rice was fluffy. Comes with a bit of salad on the side. We opted for light on the white sauce and one line of spicy sauce and it was perfection.
Halal Bros can give Halal Guys a run for their money. Open up a chain store in Southern California please!!
