Austin’s legendary fried chicken joint, Lucy’s Fried Chicken on South Congress is helmed by local chef James Holmes. The offerings include fresh gulf oysters, an innovative take on comfort food classics, and fried chicken that’s pretty dang perfect.

Scratch-made pies plus freshly-made sides and salads round out the menu while the bar offers an extensive list of imaginative craft cocktails and plenty of cold beer. Find us on Burnet Rd in Midtown, just off of South Congress, or out at the Lake; seven days a week – lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch.

  1. We love Lucy’s so much that we’ve named our dog after it.
Yes, her name is Lucy’s Fried Chicken. Lucy for short. Yes, there’s more of a story behind it. No, I won’t go into it here.
When in Austin… Eat at Lucy’s.
If anywhere near Austin… Eat at Lucy’s
If your feeling like fried chicken…. Get in your car… drive to Austin and… you guessed it. Eat at Lucy’s.

  2. Yeah, it was a last minute decision after leaving C Boys, what to eat? I love the divey table and chairs in the place, makes you feel welcome. We started off with oysters and they were spot on as a appetizer.
We four were hungry so a bucket of chicken was in order. I thought it as cool to be able to choose from a variety of side dishes. Did I forget to mention ice cold beer?
All in all a great place to eat fried chicken with friends.

  3. I came here for the first time today. It was actually pretty good. We ordered the fried chicken spaghetti, fried chicken wings, and french fries. The fried chicken spaghetti was a little too saucy but other than it was good. The fried chicken wings were OK (a little bland), but they were especially good with Crystal hot sauce. The french fries were similar to Wingstop’s without the sugar seasoning. I love fries so I wish they were seasoned a little better but they were OK.

Side note: They didn’t clean off the table fast enough after the last customer left, so our table inside was a little dirty. My friend also asked our waiter to replace our plates because they weren’t the cleanest. But he replaced them quickly, and there were no other problems.

Final verdict: I would come back again. The chicken is good and they have good customer service.

  4. You cannot go wrong here. This is like the perfect comfort food pig-out spot. The hot wings! Yes, delicious, ask for extra blue cheese. The macaroni and cheese! Really good, share with a friend. The fried oysters and green tomatoes! What?! Yes! Yum! Here’s my REAL contribution to the reviews as it is not mentioned enough……. The grits. Get them. Get the grits. They are the best grits I’ve had. No, don’t ask how they make them!!!! Don’t destroy the magic!!!!

Our server was very awesome and a perfect guide to our food fantasy island. Sorry, I just wanted to write “food fantasy island.” Can’t a man just write what he wants?!?!? Or a woman…. Or a penguin. Ha! You were like, “this guy did NOT think about the women, oh crap he did! And he thought of another species! Oh no! Am I prejudice against penguins?!” I’m glad you’re finally asking the right questions. Yes, yes you are prejudice. Good luck on your growth as a person.
