  1. I really love this place. The sunday brunch buffet was legendary. The biscuits with creamy sauce was incredible. Four full plates was barely enough to sample everything once. The wait staff was responsive – coffees and drinks perpetually full – and pleasant – with great recommendations to enjoy Austin.
We ate on the patio and enjoyed fantastic conversation with my friends. I highly recommend this place. Enjoy

  2. Wow is all I can say. The meal I had at Moonshine Patio Bar & Grill has entered my top 5 meals of all time. I had the rainbow trout. It was topped with this delicious bacon stuffing and served with fluffy grits. The flavors were just amazing. Every time I took a bite, I paused and said, “oh my gosh it’s so good.” My boyfriend had the horseradish crusted salmon that also had a lovely flavor. The Apple pie was so decadent and the salted caramel ice cream on top made the dessert. The service was great and we were seated right away on a Tuesday evening. There is a lot of seating, although they do not take reservations. Moonshine is an Austin staple you must try!

  3. Five stars, all the way. I didn’t realize this was as classy of a place as it is. The service is phenomenal, the food is delicious, portions are generous, and prices are pretty good.

This is a great date spot, or a good casual upscale option if you want something a little nicer than typical dining out food in Austin.

The only downside is that they don’t have many vegetarian friendly options. If that changes, I’ll probably be visiting way more frequently!

  4. My coworkers and I came here for happy hour. The appetizers were half off so we got every single one on the menu and a salad.

It was such a good deal! The appetizers they stood out were the biscuits with butter and honey, the fried green tomatoes, pretzel and pimento cheese, and the queso and chips.

The service was great! Our server was friendly and checked up on us a few times. The food also came out quick as well. I would return.

  5. If there is one thing you can count on, it is that Moonshine is and will always be good.

Appetizer: salted popcorn is free and is enough to get you craving one of their awesome drinks. The calamari is also solid. It’s hearty and fried perfectly.

Drinks: ruby slipper. It’s an off the menu drink but they will make it for you on request. It’s a delight of champagne, vodka and grenadine.

Hard lemonade: so damn tasty and refreshing. These go down fast too!

Old Fashion: these are made with black cherries. So delicious!

Entree: Soup of the Day: jalapeño cilantro bisque with shrimp. So, so good.

Prime rib with mashed potatoes and asparagus: perfectly made.

Dessert: peanut butter mousse pie. The BEST! The waiter said this pie has been featured on the Food Network…TWICE! Also it is HUGE. Four people could share it.

  6. I LOVE THIS PLACE. I had only been here for dinner once before and it was great, but I came in for Sunday brunch buffet recently and it surpassed my expectations. So many options and only $20 per person? Hell yes!

Nothing was bad. Everything was perfect. 10/10 recommend bringing people here for a great meal and a great time. Also the server Phillip was amazing and attentive!!

  7. Moonshine is famous in Austin for a Southern comfort food. Their cocktails feature moonshine in them and the food accompaniments are excellent.

Despite this location being blocked off from construction, locals and tourists alike were streaming in.

K and I were lucky to get seats during happy hour. We shared the following:

Southern grit cake = Fried crawfish over biscuits. The fried crawfish was crunchy and meaty. The biscuits were buttery and flaky. I enjoyed the gravy that tops this dish.

Fried green tomatoes with smoked shrimp. This was the best appetizer. The fried green tomatoes at such crunchy breading. The smoked shrimp added this amazing flavor and texture. I couldn’t get enough of this dish.

Kale and bacon cheese dip. This is okay. If you like artichoke dip you’ll like this. If you don’t like artichoke dip you can skip this.

Moonshine ribs. If you love saucy flavorful fall-off-the-bone ribs then you’ll love this dish. The fluffy jalapeno biscuits are a must. Avoid the soggy sweet potato fries.

Banana cream pudding. This was perfect end to the meal. The bandana cream was so smooth and the nila wafers were so crisp.

I would definitely recommend this location. It was one of the best unplanned restaurants we tried this trip.

I would reorder the ribs and the fried green tomatoes. Eat the jalapeno cheddar biscuits that come with the ribs.

  8. Head to the back bar and hang with Devon and Justin. They provide and accentuated experience that you don’t get in the dining room.

Hanger steak and Corn flake salad were outstanding. Cheese grits are a must add. Throw in some corn bread and you’re good to go.

Big selection of Bourbons and craft beers to suit all tastes.

Enjoy a traditional yet edgy Austin experience.

PS. Don’t forget to ask for popcorn

  9. I probably should have stopped before the dessert, but it was worth all the pain. Came here for a work lunch and we made sure to try the menu. From the shrimp corn dogs and calamari, to the rainbow trout and ribs, all the way to the apple pie and chocolate Oreo moose pie.

The calamari had a wonderful amount of flavor and the sauce had a nice little kick to it. It was more then enough for the table of 8. The shrimp corn dogs are relatively small for the price but they do taste great.

I ordered the rainbow trout dish looking for a nice lighter side dish but was definitely surprised how massive the meal was. Covered in bacon and cornbread crumbs, you just can’t go wrong. Finally, we were near the end of our meal and we wanted to try something small so we ordered what we thought would be 2 small slices of pie for the table. Little did we know, they would bring enough pie for 15 people. The Oreo moose was amazing and the apple pie tasted extremely fresh. You won’t be disappointed with either.

As most reviews state, they don’t take reservations. Show up early or expect a wait

  10. The parking is street only or valet, you might be lucky to find a spot or you can just give in and do the valet. There is most likely going to be a wait for seating, but it’s totally worth it. The brunch time gets the craziest here, so make sure to plan ahead of time and go accordingly.

The food is delicious, I love the pretzel appetizer, and the warm bacon dip are amazing. I think the pretzels should be served with the bacon dip as well. It’s the soft pretzel sticks and it’s pretty awesome. I recommend getting that for sure. The bring out their house made chips as well and those are delicious too of course. We ordered the chicken and waffles, the mac and cheese, and this pork pork sandwich special that was going on that day. The mac and cheese is really good, but very non-traditional, it has corn in it. But I really enjoyed that one the best. The chicken and waffles were good, but I feel like you can’t go wrong there. The chicken are chicken tenders and you get 3 to the order. The pork pork sandwich was my least favorite, but it’s not a normal item anyways so I should have known better. The red beans and rice side was really good and flavorful. The seasonal vegetables I felt could have been cooked a little longer, they were still a little raw. The cornbread is awesome just like the house chips. We got the peanut butter moose for dessert and that was amazing, and goodness the portion size on that is crazy for $5! Totally worth it.

The server we had was amazing, she was super nice and very friendly and happy. She had a large table of 15 come in but she was still as attentive as she was before. I definitely give this place 5 stars for service alone. She was awesome, never did my drink go empty. She had an awesome personality. I wish I would remember her name right now but I drew a blank.

I love this place and would highly recommend it to people visiting as well as a place to grad dinner on the regular.

  11. Woah. This place is definitely one of the best places I have eaten at in Austin. Their southern style food is classy and absolutely delicious. I actually went here on my birthday and couldn’t of had a better experience.

When we arrived on Thursday, we got there in enough time to get the happy hour specials. We ordered the Old Fashioned and the Hard Lemonade. Both were phenomenal and had a heavy pouring of alcohol in them, but the flavors were so well balanced, that it worked perfectly.

For a starter we ordered the pimento cheese and pretzels. This was amazing! The pretzels were warm and freshly baked and the homemade pimento cheese was the best I have ever had and had a great little kick to it.

For dinner we ordered the Chicken and Waffles and the Backyard Chicken Sandwich. The fried chicken was moist on the inside and crunchy on the outside and the syrup was amazing and a perfect complement to tie the whole dish together. The sandwich was also delicious and the BBQ sauce on it was wonderful.

Since it was my birthday, the waitress gave us a heavily discounted apple pie. It was an entire mini pie served with ice cream on top. The crust was flaky and the apple filling was perfect. If you come, you could easily split this dessert between like 4 people. We had 2 people and could only eat about half.

This place is delicious and I can’t wait to get back here soon!

  12. You’ll rarely hear me rave about a restaurant with an hour and a half wait to be seated. I’m raving about Moonshine, where we waited an hour and a half to be seated.

The wait was part of the fun. We ordered appetizers and drinks and sat by the fires and enjoyed each others company. The outdoor area is a great place to hang out and is covered and heated (I think) so you’re still comfortable even on a 60 degree rainy November day. Kind of feels like you’re on a ranch or something.

The Waterloo was my favorite cocktail! It has grapefruit juice, cucumber and gin. Tastes so fresh and delicious. Friends said the Bloody Mary was the best they’ve ever tried.

The food is incredible. The bacon dip is a perfect, shareable starter. The green chili macaroni lives up to the hype. The pimento is fabulous. The seasoned popcorn is a great way to hold you over while you wait as well.

Finally, we received phenomenal service. Our waitress was patient and super nice with our large, slightly rowdy and indecisive party. She did an amazing job splitting up the checks even with multiple shared dishes.

What a fun afternoon! I’d love to go back for brunch, which they only serve on Sunday.

  13. Everyone is very nice, cherry and knowledgeable!

This was my first meal after landing in austin. It helped that it was a stones throw away from my hotel 🙂

I’d call this upscale southern comfort food. And it’s damn good!

I ordered my first ever moonshine here! My server kelly recommended I try to Catdaddy since I didn’t want something too sweet or something string that is best as a shot — after all, this was lunch. Have to pace my drinking 😉 the Catdaddy looked like a small glass of water. .. but it was not! So good! Great recommendation Kelly!

Since I was dining alone, I only ordered one dish. Another first — my first ever chicken and waffles! I know this is sad, why has it taken me so long?! I don’t know. The chicken is oh so delicious, even a hint of spice baked in.

I wanted to try the fried pickles (special] and the corn dog shrimp but I knew I couldn’t eat them all by myself and I hate throwing food away. Just means I’ll have to come back here!

Environment is chill. I was here around 3pm during ACL weekend 2. Music in the background. Not loud at all.

Ps. Kelly is awesome! So energetic, let me ask her all my tourist menu questions and didn’t rush me. And kept checking in (but not in the annoying way!) On top of it all, she gave me a complimentary dessert on the house since I was in town to celebrate my birthday!
