The Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long Center is Austin’s only live entertainment venue to embrace and emphasize local talent and art, with over 80% of performances coming from local artists. We inspire creativity and collaboration, and even our grounds are open to social and community groups and events like boot camps, flash mobs, weddings, meetings and races.

Visitors enjoy unprecedented views of the Austin skyline and Lady Bird Lake from the Long Center. Beneath the iconic “Terrace Ring,” the Long Center City Terrace invites the community to experience unmatched views during intermission, or while attending outdoor concerts or free community events like Bubblepalooza and Trailer Food Tuesday.

Our eclectic programming appeals to all ages and interests. From ballet, symphony and opera to Shakespeare, tap dance, children’s theatre, musical theatre, comedy and outdoor concerts, we have something for everyone. Performers include both touring acts and local homegrown shows. Harry Connick, Jr., Leonard Cohen, Blue Man Group and Grupo Fantasma are just a few of the favorite performers who have come through the Long Center.

  1. We got the box seat tickets with a view from the top most level for $100 per ticket plus some fees. It was worth the money as you get your own bars on the top floor where less guests frequented because most people circulate on the lower levels. The restrooms, however, have less stalls than the ones downstairs. With the top-most box seats, you can see about 95% of the stage unless you lean over a bit to see the hidden area. The balcony wall does block a bit of the view. Acoustic wise, you may not hear as loudly as you would have in the orchestra section. Depends on what you are watching, this view is great for symphonies. As for anything else visually emphatic, you may want to opt for a lower level. Note, they allow you to bring your drinks that you purchase from the bars inside the theater because they pour them into sippy cups. Bring your own binoculars for your own viewing pleasure. Also, please dress up for the event. And make donations! They work hard, and it really helps with some cultural funding.

  2. Had a great night here. Solid performance, easy access, comfy seats. Good view even from the bottom section and parking available, though is time consuming so give yourself some time to get through the pay lot. Inside they offer spirits for $10-12, wine for $9 and beer for $9-11 depending on types and size. Some small snacks and sodas available as well for about $5. Not much of a dress code, with people in hoodies to people in full suits; but average was a dress and blazer. Really nice venue and would 100% be back for another show.

  3. Love this beautiful hall with the amazing acoustics – both great for the opera, broadway shows, or even magic shows. There really isn’t a terrible seat.

Challenges – departing the venue. If you’re Mezzanine or Balcony, it’ll take you a bit to get down the stairs (especially if you’re at an event
when folks are wearing formal attire). Plus, leaving the parking garage can be a bit of a challenge – it’ll take you awhile since there are only two egresses. Be patient. Go take photos with the downtown skyline behind you. Walk across the street and grab a frozen custard from Sandy’s.

  4. I’ve never seen a show I didn’t love at this venue. This particular evening it was the 100th Anniversary of Lenard Bernstein’s birthday. The Austin symphony absolutely crushed this performance. I attended in the symphony pit with 3 family members. This was such a memorable evening. Lights err at 7:50. The show began promptly be an at 8:00 pm and they stunned from beginning to end. I was honestly very pleased with the entire lineup. The Austin symphony does fantastic work. You should make an effort to see them perform if you had not yet had the pleasure.

  5. The Long Center is one of the premier theatre facilities in Austin hosting a wide variety of performances. Located in heart of downtown on the southern banks of Lady Bird Lake it surely stands out.

It shares a large parking garage with Palmer Events Center and Auditorium Shores. I always arrive early to make sure I can find a spot where there is always something going on in the surrounding area especially in the evening or weekends. The garage has two entry points so makes it easy and parking costs is always under $10. They take both cash and credit cards. There is also valet parking and always had a good experience using but can back up getting your vehicle.

The Long Center main attraction is the Michael & Susan Dell Hall and Debra & Kevin Rollins Studio Theatre. Dell Hall is the larger venue and Rollins is much smaller. Both have excellent acoustics. I have sat pretty much everywhere and depending on the show I select my favorite seat selection. One time I sat in the box seats, and took a private elevator and walked through dark hallway not knowing our guide was taking us to our seats or Phantom of the Opera’s lair. I mostly sit in the orchestra about 10 rows from the stage to have a good view.

The orchestra has two walk isles that run down on each side and if you sit next to it then should have a good clear view of the stage. But never know a tall person sits in front of you. Happened to me and returned to another date to enjoy the ballet.

There are plenty of restrooms and bars. If you find it cramped in the lobby then go up a level and there is even an outdoor covered patio. A member lounge is present and very nice.

The staff is very professional and if you did not purchase tickets at home then there is a ticket office outside for buying and will call.

After a night show you do not have to rush out where can wait until the garage leaving traffic dies down by hanging out in the H-E-B Terrace enjoying a great view of Austin’s continuously changing downtown skyline.

  6. The Long Center in the heart of Austin, offers a few free shows if you search, and tons of ever-changing higher cost shows. I tend to veer towards the free events (having family of six people, we are more casual). I have to totally COMMEND the large staff of volunteers who man the doors, monitor the halls, take tickets, etc.
It’s these people who keep me feeling great whenever I make the trip to brave the traffic and parking challenges to get to events. They are always smiling, helpful, and welcoming — even to my crew of kids and frazzled adults!!

  7. Whaaaaaaat? I haven’t written a review for The Long Center? Hmmmmm…

Ive seen a number of shows here, so many I can’t remember. I like this theater, (the main and smaller). It’s one of my favorites. I think I like the layout at Bass a bit better, but the acoustics here seem to be better. The seats are roomier and there’s a bit more room to walk if others are already seated. I’ve sat in various areas, so I do speak from experience. Pretty much any seat is a pretty good one. Upper balcony is a bit steep. That part I’m not so crazy about. Even a show on the grassy lawn is a treat.

The view of downtown can’t be beat, so if you can hang around a bit and enjoy the outdoor section, do it. The building design is so cool in that they incorporated part of the old Palmer Auditorium inside and out. The green tiles from the former structure have been put to good use as well as the round rim of the former dome. Well done!

  8. The Long Center is always a winner. Ballet, Symphony, and Opera. This is the place to be. Good student discounts.

Help support the arts. Once the geezers start croaking, there’ll be less of a fan base.

  9. I’ve been to the Long Center a hand full of times now and I feel like I owe this place a review. I’ve seem the Nutcracker Ballet twice, Annie and a couple of other shows. The building is pretty nice and offers some great views of the city and Lake Lady Bird. They serve all sorts of drinks and snacks at the concessions. Drinks you can take in the theater, but food you can not. I appreciate the drink situation and agree with the food rule. Seriously who wants someone crumbling the candy wrapper in the middle of a performance… annoying.

The seats here are pretty good in my opinion. I tend to judge a venue on the seats and how comfortable I can be. If you are overweight and think about this kind of thing – the seats here are not bad.

I have been in the top balcony, mezzanine and orchestra level seating here and they were all great. I loved being on the orchestra level because I could see more of the fine details happening on stage. I was able to walk up to the pit orchestra before the show started as well. I also liked being on the mezzanine because I could see down into the orchestra pit. I like to see the conductor and instrumentalists. Any where you sit here is a pretty good seat.

I am a huge fan of the fine arts and appreciate having a performing arts center in Austin like The Long Center. I will continue to attend performances here as long as I am a resident. They offer season pass packages and I saw an excellent Black Friday deal on the packages just recently. I considered doing it but waited too long… I will be on the look out for next year though.

  10. I have to admit I’m somewhat biased, given that I’m the director of communications and marketing at this venue…but in all honesty you cannot find a better theatre or performing arts venue in Austin. The acoustics in both halls are superior and the sight lines are excellent from every seat. There is not a bad seat in the house. The City Terrace offers the universally agreed upon ‘Best Downtown View,’ and it is a lovely place to have a snack or cocktail before or after a show.

  11. The summer concert series is a must go. I really enjoyed the ones I’ve gone to…strings and brass. The atmosphere is awesome. You sit on a hill and watch the sunset while listening to beautiful music. The people around you are nice and it’s altogether a chill atmosphere. Dogs and kids are all about. So it’s family friendly.

Being a nice blanket, maybe some cheese and wine, make sure you sit in the shade or soon to be shaded area. Afterward…walk home on the trail a little rather than just getting in your car and zipping home. The concert lasts about an hour.

  12. This is the second year I have been going to the summer outdoor concert series. I have met many great people and have listened to the various sections of the orchestra. Thanks to the Hartman Foundation

  13. During a recent event at the Long Center, I noticed a sign in the restroom asking for patrons to donate to the center so the arts can thrive in Austin. After looking around and taking in the entirety of the venue, I can honestly say that this place probably needs no more money as it is extremely modern and well kept.

The theater itself is enormous. There are three levels with plenty of seats in each floor. The seats are appropriately spaced and there is plenty of leg room between rows. I can’t speak for the very back, but most of the seats in the mezzanine had unobstructed views of the stage. There really didn’t seem to be a bad seat. The ushers were also very helpful when trying to find seats and there were more ushers than guests I think. They were located at the entrance to the building, at the entrance to each floor, and at each door into the theater. They came in groups of at least three and they all were very friendly. The bar was great as it overlooked the beautiful city skyline but the prices were kind of pricey. Drinks can go into the theater as well – except red wine.

The parking was cheap ($8) and can be accessed from both sides of the venue. The walkways from the parking garage also lead right to the box office and main entrance to the building. It was very convenient.

Overall, I would highly recommend this place for any cultural event that interests you. There are numerous quality events going on at any given time and the venue is very clean and modern.

  14. I’m a huge fan of the Long Center. The facility is absolutely gorgeous and its views of the Austin skyline are stunning. I’ve attended ballets, broadway shows, and an Alamo Drafthouse Action Pack Quote-Along special at this venue. I’ve sat in all sections from the Parterre, the nosebleed balcony seats, the mezzanine, as well as the box seats. From all of my visits and varying seats, I’ve had no issue with line of sight to the stage.

Dependent on the event, I’ll often check to see if there are any eligible promo codes online that I can apply towards my purchase – surprisingly, I’ve gotten discounts that way. I even got a Yelp Check-In discount for my next purchase to a Long Center event for being a regular!

Parking as expected can be hectic, so to guarantee timely parking, walking, check-in, and seating, you should arrive at least a half hour prior to showtime. The Palmer Center parking garage charges $7. If you have specialty license plates, you can get complimentary parking (Check the website to see if you’re eligible.)

Bathrooms are reliable and plentiful. Lines for the bar kiosks can be long, but it’s nice to have as people socialize prior to the show and during intermissions. All of the ushers have always been so polite and professional. The only downside is that because this is such a massive venue, if you’re seated higher up in the theater, it will take you forever to get down the stairs behind the flood of people trying to exit the theater. It’s all part of the theater experience though, so there’s no point in rushing.

Overall, this is an impressive venue for Austin. It’s absolutely beautiful and I love coming here.

  15. We went to the Long Center Rollins Theater to watch a movie. Afterwards we found all the food trucks on the outdoor terrace for Trailer Park Tuesday. I had no idea food trucks gathered here! It was such nice weather, we were starving, and the collection of trucks out were all the featured Paypal deals I’ve wanted to try – Peached Tortilla, Boomerang Pies, and Mellizoz Tacos!

Movie, dinner, 80 degree weather, and a beautiful view of Austin on the Long Center terrace. Perfect date night!
