An Austin icon, The Tavern is a German-influenced sports bar featuring high-def TVs, an extensive beer menu & a roomy upstairs patio.

The Tavern’s history stretches back to the early 1900s, and the venue continues to bring the modern comforts of a neighborhood pub steeped in Austin lore.

Its dark wood bars, floor to ceiling windows and expansive, dog-friendly deck make The Tavern the spot to watch a game, celebrate with friends and family or just take in the action of North Lamar Boulevard.

The Tavern’s menu features fresh, local ingredients, innovative comfort food and classic pub fare. The venue boasts two full bars with local craft beers on tap, premium liquors and seasonal cocktails.

Have a party of 6 or more? The Tavern is a great spot for group gathering. With two floors and two bars, we can accommodate just about any request.

  1. Upstairs is best. You have to tip really well to get there but it’s worth it. They’ll let anyone in downstairs.

  2. Excellent salad and burger AND desert. Great service and Chef Johny Roma is making The Tavern a great place to be at and enjoy tasty food.

  3. Buffalo wings are tangy and spicy. The Blue cheese is very thin, more like ranch. Wings were hot in terms of temperature and celery in carrots were cold and fresh, no dryness. String onion fries is a nice touch to the dish. The pretzel bread is awesome. Warm from the ocean with tasty bacon beer cheese spread. I had mine with a Stella in a cold pint glass. As it was not very busy this Monday night, I was well cared for by the friendly and happy bartender. My Glenfiddich whiskey meats were perfect, no residual water and not overloaded with ice. Food service was faster than expected. Ambiance is nice and I learned about this spot from Meetup. The Barcelona FC meetup group I belong to gathers here for big Barcelona Champions League games. It would be difficult to not feel at home here. Real sports fans. The bartender and server was a true pro and her name is Jessi.

  4. It’s an Austin staple. Enjoy evenings relaxing on their upstairs patio. They have a large food selection especially for a pub. Try one of their burgers 🙂

  5. The Tavern (est. 1916) is quaint, comfortable, charming and is all Austin. We have visited several times and experienced wonderful food, and quick professional, and friendly service. And for those that can get stressed, The Tavern has its own parking lot across the street, for an Austin establishment, is golden.

It is a sports bar with plentiful televisions with a menu that features, pubgrub, burgers, comfort food, and …. a plentiful beer selection. Don’t forget the margaritas. The prices are extremely reasonable which coupled with great food renders great value. I suggest the CFS, or cheeseburger, or brat, well, you get my drift. And great french fries. I never thought I would say this about any restaurant, the vegetables are delicious.

  6. Great cheeseburger, badass pretzels with beer cheese and ice cold beer. It was very good.

  7. If you haven’t tried a burger from The Tavern – you are missing out on the best burger I’ve ever had. It’s a 45-minute drive from my house but the burgers are so delicious, I am happy to take the trip.

  8. Unbeatable service. Any request I had was met. They learned my name, my favorite drink and put on any game I wanted to watch on any TV I asked…. while they were busy. Major props to Emily, Vince and Ariel (pardon if I misspelled)

This place makes me want to expedite my move to Austin.

  9. I use to go here in college, probably still have my intials carved in the bar. It has recently gone through changes, including new ownership. The same folks that brought you Liberty Lunch and Esthers Follies. Shaking up the menu and its great, the new chef let me taste the banger and mash. Awesome. Staff is courtious and attentive; the GM, Vince is one kool kat. Great Happy Hour with interesting events on certain evenings.
I am happy to see it resurected. Check it out!

  10. THE BEST CHICKEN & WAFFLES IN AUSTIN
I was blown away by the quality and deliciousness of their food. The ambience and history of this place is must to experience the authentic Austin food scene. A must go to place.

  11. Iconic for a GOOD reason. This place has been there forever because this restaurant is the GO TO place for watching sports and has been for decades.
Great food and appetizers for just about anyone. Go and get some burnt orange all over you.

  12. I was visiting a friend in Texas and waiting for my flight. This sports bar is near the airport in Austin and the prices were reasonable. The parking is found across the street from the bar. The bar appears sketchy from the outside but inside not bad at all. It was clean and dozens of TVs playing multiple games. My friend was looking for a particular game that was not on the screen. The waitress was cool enough to change one of the TVs near the bar. The food was very good. I ordered the quesadilla veggie and it was one of the best I had. The salsa was amazing and spicy. So good! The only problem was that the bar top had this weird step down that made it hard to pull your food near to eat. The restrooms were clean. I love there is a no smoking policy inside. If you need a place to hang before heading to the airport, this is a good start.

  13. HOLD UP AUSTIN,
We have a MAJOR Bloody Mary contender in town!!
The tavern has a secret spiced Vodka, made in house by Arielle !!! WHOA.
As a Bloody Mary connoisseur, TOP 5 in the world.
You have the spice, the flavor, the FRESH toppings.
Not to mention the extreme mix of peppers to make this, I’m in awe.
Come grab a seat inside or on the balcony and have her make you the best bloody ever, leaving you wanting another every time !
Food is great bar food, the atmosphere is worth checking out, so come and it will make your day !
