  3. Brandon the bartender at Vulcan is by far one of the best bartenders in Austin. I will return to Vulcan based off his customer service and Speediness of service.

  5. Nice place to watch a show.

  6. I’ve seen FKJ, June Marieezy, Alan Walker, Ekali, and attended Vibe Vessel here the bartenders, photographers, dancers, and VIP staff have been cool people when I interacted with them! Good crowd.

I like to wand here sometimes. They’re cool with flow toys, and it’s fun to get bottle service. You have a great view from the upper level.

  7. Great small venue for a show! Small bar but prompt friendly service, dance floor is rather small but offers an intimate venue to catch world class dj’s. Bouncers are nice and overall so are the people.

  8. Always have a blast when I come here! Love the multiple floors and rooftop deck. Great shows and all reasonably priced. Highly recommended for any EDM show!

  9. I’ve been to two concerts here and really enjoyed the venue!

Sound quality is great and I love the layout of the place. They have a main floor at the bottom which allows you to get up close and personal to the artist, as well as a second floor that lets you watch from above and a third floor balcony for when you need to take a break. My only complaints were that the women’s bathroom has a stall that is missing a door/the other locks are broken (pls fix this!). Also, they have a 10$ minimum to close out a tab so keep that in mind!

  10. Came here to see the legendary Roni Size! I really liked the layout of this place. Big dance floor, impressive lighting and a chill lounge space upstairs (with a separate bar!). Another plus was the smoking balcony on the rooftop. Perfect people-watching spot. Tab seemed a little high for what we drank…but you know how that goes 🙂

  11. This is the best venue on dirty 6th for electronic music. Mid-level artists come through and the floorplan is such that if you want to dance in the crowd there is plenty of breathing room, and if you wanna sip on your drinks and watch the show from the elevated 2nd floor, thats an option too.
Having an upstairs lounge, 2 bars, and outside balcony that onlooks 6th makes it a rare gem in a sea of run down joints on east 6th.

  12. The first time I was here i Saw Hermitude and it was awesome, the downstairs is the hard core ravers and the upstairs was nice so yo u could get some breather’s or a smoke its just overall over all a great venue, last night i saw Hermite and there where no breaks (his music was just to dirty) but i’m so thankful i saw the event at the last second on yobored.com
and knew i just had to go!

  13. The best dance music in town! Real songs that are easy to dance.
NOT some DJ-mix where is only 3 beats and it is running next hour(s).
Colorful customers including very caring young lady who was worrying am I lost from my group while I was lonely myself. All the folks seems to have a great time and stage was crowded as well ++++

  14. I was chosen to participate in the live band punk rock karaoke contest at SXSW this year. The judges included Anthony Bourdain and Ludo Lefebvre, with Josh Homme running around and being generally hilarious all night. OK, that’s all the bragging I have for right now. Anyways, the venue here is legit. The whole night was pretty much the crowd screaming along to punk songs all night and jamming the fuck out. The floor and balcony setup allowed some prime-time viewing in a scenery I can best describe as neo-industrial fight club fan fiction.

The drinks were a bit expensive, but I’ll chalk that up to SXSW and not to the actual venue, so they don’t lose any stars. As far as the stage, production, facilities, and general layout of the place? This place is tits.

I would highly recommend stopping by here if a show piques your interest.

  15. I’m a big fan of Vulcan and I’m always excited when an artist I want to see plays a show here. It’s small and intimate enough to really enjoy being there.
There are two bars one downstairs and one up so they keep the line moving really quickly. They serve you your drink and send you on your way.
I have to complain about the sound for a second. Of all the shows I’ve seen here, there has always been a janky speaker that kinda ruins it for me. You can hear it popping and dipping in and out. It’s a buzz kill but the fact that I can actually see the stage from the second floor won’t stop me from returning.

  16. Love the look and feel of this space! We had our annual corporate party here in August and we all had a blast! We worked with Kristin Ott, our fabulous event planner, she literally took care of all aspects of this party and really made a wonderful one of a kind night! If you are looking for a venue to host your next corporate event – look her up!

This place is also a badass music venue that is starting to break into all music genres, although its primarily edm/DJ music – it’s still an awesome space for any concert!

    Sarah M. , 10 years ago
  17. Yeah, very cool venue and the bartenders are quick to tend to your needs. I also love the layout where you can see the stage from the 2nd floor and watch the band play.
Need a break? Just step up to the 3rd floor roof and you can see the surrounding buildings.

  18. 3 well spaced levels.  First level has a stage for performances that can also be seen from the 2nd floor.  3rd floor is a nice little rooftop patio.  Two bars total, bartenders are usually responsive even on busy days.  They also seem to remember who tips well and will definitely scratch your back if you scratch theirs.  Otherwise usually also has good live shows, I went during sxsw and just for a normal show, they seem to choose decent music.  I’ve had no problems here.  It’s on the edge of dirty six and I haven’t seen too many degenerates here throwing up everywhere which is a huge plus.

  19. Three levels, nice stage and dance area, fully stocked bar, great for events. What else is there to say?! Would totally recommend it

  20. This place was great! Pros!! It had a high ceiling with a lot of open space. There is one main bar downstairs and another small one upstairs. The bartenders were really fast and pretty friendly. There is also a small stairway going up from the second floor towards the front of the building heading out to the terrace that overlooks 6th street. The terrace is a bit on the small side but hey it’s still a patio right? Smokers are all over this spot so if you need a ciggy or just want to socialize then this is your spot.
The cons!! .. of this place were the fact that it was piping hot in there when we were attending a Yelp event. Another would probably have to be the stairways were quite small for the amount of people trafficking them so you feel kind of endangered when going up and down them. As far as the service goes .. it was good but not great.  I am not a drink expert so I had to ask what some drinks were and the bartender was not too thrilled to answer such questions which made me feel a bit “bullied” somehow being a dork!
Overall I am not sure I would come here again since there are so many places off 6th street that I have not been to but I definitely loved it while I was there!!

  21. A seriously unexpectedly nice big open, airy, fairly classy clubby interior space on the Dirty 6th, with friendly courteous bar staff and (at least during the earlier hours of the evening I was there) a decent sounding p.a. system. The upstairs roof balcony is nice, as well as the extra rooms. I don’t know who the owners had to bury in order to let them construct this place in its location – because you know this space was previously destined to bleed and morph, generic-amoeba-bar-like into, I dunno CHEERS II EVEN MORE SHOTZ, GAH – but I tip my biggest hat to them for getting it done. Plus I mean, the name of the place is VULCAN GAS COMPANY. Word.

Plenty of room for the dancing, plus the cozy lighting, reminding me of (cue schmaltzy violins, followed by some post-raver era beats) the couple of decent dance clubs that were here when I came to the Atx in 1995.

Uncertain what the clientele of this place becomes on a regular evening of Dirty 6th debaucheryin’; again, I was here for a sponsored gathering between 6pm and 9pm, with relatively docile folk. YMMV.

  22. Got invited to a very cool private party thrown by a fairly large group of influential Austin locals. It’s a long story how I got here but being in the presence of Dom and high end Mezcal being passed around by the bottle is always interesting. Apparently the world is a very small place and various people I met knew people I knew from various places. Roof space, private rooms, upstairs and downstairs bar and a lounge make up very different vibes even if it’s the same space. However it’s the people that make up the ambiance and Im glad I got to see a party part of Austin for my short stay.
