Austin’s oldest standing fire station has been a fixture of Brazos Street since 1885, built in tandem with the historic Driskill Hotel across the street. While the city grew up around it, we kept the bones — the worn brick, the heavy wood, the echoes of another era.

Today it’s an international hostel hosting travelers from every corner of the world, and the Firehouse Lounge that locals whisper about. Clean rooms, free WiFi, on-site laundry, staff who actually know Austin — and a bar you have to find to believe.

Our lounge is open 7 days a week. We’re perfect for small or large groups and available for private rentals and parties. Our old-world charm makes us the ideal location for vintage-themed parties and intimate events!

Great energy, good price. Speakeasy on the first floor was wonderful and great bartenders. Went on a bar crawl with one of the hosts Alexia and she made the evening very enjoyable for everyone involved! Would definitely stay here again.

I had a great time at Firehouse Hostel! The location is one of it’s strongest and most obvious pro’s as it’s in the middle of downtown. It’s kept clean, the staff is awesome, and it was super easy meeting others staying there. Ana led a group of us on a pub crawl and a tour to Barton Springs and did a great job! On the pub crawl, she showed us around 6th street and provided multiple options/suggestions making for a great night out, and on the Barton Springs tour, she guided us all along the river showing us places where we could use rope swings and jump into the river creating a great day spent with friends out on the river. I had a great time staying here and I recommend this hostel to anybody looking for accommodation in Austin! My only critique is that there’s not really any common areas aside from the kitchen.

Hostel is rustic but clean; great location; staff was knowledgeable and friendly; FREE laundry facilitities! kitchen is main gathering place(good people and great discussions); I chose the mixed, 10 bed dorm and feit safe and respected. wish there would have been a separate sitting room for reading or quiet conversation. Overall a pleasant experience

Best hostel in Austin – feels like home!
Firehouse Hostel is genuinely one of the best hostels I’ve ever stayed at. The beds are super comfortable with privacy curtains, the rooms are clean, and the atmosphere is incredibly welcoming – it really does feel like staying with family. The location is unbeatable, literally around the corner from 6th Street and close to everything downtown. The staff are wonderful – Kaz, Anna, Jackie, and the whole team go out of their way to make you feel at home from day one. Will absolutely be back!

Went for after dinner drinks and was blown away. The ambiance in this place is amazing and it’s a great place to grab a cocktail with your date. The bartender makes an excellent Kir Royal. My only complaint is that the music was too loud, especially when the place is packed with people.

I would definitely go back for happy hour or during the middle of the day when it isn’t packed with people.

I love this place! I love entering through the “secret” door from the hostel, the dark interior that calls smoky barrooms from the 40’s to mind, the Frank Sinatra tunes on the stereo (you could/should turn this down, please) and the cool drinks at reasonable prices.

And, the food menu has expanded a bit, since my first visit. I enjoyed the chicken salad, but I would ask that you serve some items NOT on bread. Hummus on a sweet hamburger type bun just doesn’t do it for me!

Best mixologist in town (wish I’d caught his name, so I could plan my visits around his work shift)

Wonderful little hidden gem – literally – in the midst of 6th street madness!

Speakeasy feel, dark lighting and an overall “cool” vibe. Great ambiance, not too crowded and wonderful cocktails, according to friends. We didn’t eat there but I definitely want to go back to try a few of the menu items!

Can’t wait to go back.
